Hawaii State Library - Oahu, HI
The Hawaii State Library kindly approached MIGM with an opportunity to have Jake perform and promote the Music Is Good Medicine message. An appropriate banner for this event was titled "Music Is Good Medicine featuring Jake Shimabukuro at the Hawaii State Library. The setting for this show took place inside the library lobby which was decked out with new tile flooring and a clean new look. Just think...when was the last time you were in a library and able to listen to loud and live music? That aspect alone made this Saturday afternoon visit so much fun and entertaining.
Guests packed into the lobby and eventually overtook the upstairs stacks. All in all there were over 450 people in attendance for this show. Originally we were expecting around 100....what a great turn out!
Jake spoke passionately about supporting the local libraries and keeping the tradition of reading physical books. Since the birth of the internet, books are becoming an alternative option to reading. There are so many digital variants for reading these days, so it's important to remember that our local libraries support and stock all these great works and publications to fill your mind and imagination.
A powerful message was expressed when Jake began speaking about the MIGM program and how youth of today have become exposed to so many technological advances. Jake explained how the younger generation receives information at such a faster rate when compared to older styles of learning. Jake believes that the children of today do not have a short attention span, it's more that they learn so quickly they don't have to put as much effort or focus into the learning process.
However, regardless of age and generational gaps, Music is the one constant that brings us all back together. Music is a common language that we can all understand. Music is always an expression of your self, your experiences, and all the things that you live with.
Mahalo to the Hawaii State Library and Louise Storm for supporting the MIGM message and Jake's music. We are thankful to be part of any efforts that help promote positive lifestyles and living. And remember...support your local state libraries!
